Just downslope from the narrow band of vines that form Summum is our La Source Chardonnay vineyard. The beneficiary of the same ancient lava flow, depositing iron-rich rocks and pebbles, La Source Chardonnay realizes this minerality with a richer and more open-knit texture.
California- A spicy, exotic blend of 70% Cabernet with Syrah, Grenache and Petit Verdot rounding out the blend. Inspired by the red blends of Southern France but very Californian in heft, this wine would be a perfect match to grilled steak or crispy duck.
Aromas of fresh red fruits and savory herbs lead to flavors of cranberry, pomegranate, and Bing cherries.
Anden Pinot Noir celebrates Seven Springs’ rich history. The oldest corner of the vineyard is slowly succumbing to the ravages of phylloxera. Here, at mid-slope, the first Pinot Noir vines planted at Seven Springs still produce a delicate and savory wine. We hand-harvest the smallest and most beautiful clusters from the oldest and most disease-stricken vines then ferment them on the stems. We raise the wine in 100% new Ermitage barrels and bottle the wine without filtration. The resulting wine is delicate, fragile, and transfixing: a subdued and timeless interpretation of Pinot Noir.
Deep, brilliant garnet in color, the nose is voluptuous and broad showing red and black fruit at first and then opening into floral notes of rose and lavender with hints of cardamon and dried boletus. The palate is seamless with deep fruit flavors of blueberry and sour cherry cobbler, hints of rosemary and a very fine texture throughout. The finish is precise and direct, sustained by mineral notes and lingering fruit flavors, in the classic Seven Springs Vineyard style.
The 2014 La Source Pinot Noir comes from the vines grown at the very top of Seven Springs. With the slope reaching 700 feet in elevation, our Dijon clones of Pinot Noir are challenged by rocky soils and daily wind from the Van Duzer Gap. The Dijon clones and the stressful conditions conspire to produce the focused, complex, and mineral-driven expression we believe serves as a benchmark for Oregon Pinot Noir. The La Source blocks at Seven Springs are harvested by hand. Gentle handling of the fruit throughout fermentation insures a supple, texturally pleasing wine. The 2014 La Source Pinot Noir was raised in 30% new French oak barrels and was bottled without fining or filtering.
