Marius Delarche Pernand Vergelesses Rouge is crafted from 50 year-old vines on average. Earthy flavors mingle with soft, fresh berry on the palate. The wine is refined and powerful with smoke and spicy notes combining with the terroir driven minerality and earth elements. The bright cherry and raspberry fruit get an added lift and clarity from the integrated acidity.
Philippe and Etienne Delarche run a family estate of 9 hectares in the villages of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. The harvest is hand-picked and the wines made in the traditional manner. For red wines, the grapes are destemmed, then spend 10 to 12 days in the vat. The cap of skins is punched by hand, then the grapes are pressed. During fermentation, the temperature is constantly checked. The wines are then put into barrels and left to mature for around 15 months. The red wines are pure and concentrated, with lovely color and red-fruit aromas; they are complex and perfectly balanced. For me, Renardes, Bressandes and Clos du Roi are without equal among the grand cru reds from Crton. To findone, from a great vintage, at this price is only possible because of our direct purchase. The rich texture, drive and weight all reveal clearly tha tthis is Grand Cru. The palate impression is very rich, with ripe tannins. There is just a hint of sauvage/foxy notes that this vineyard is known for. Bravo Etienne! - (Keith Wollenberg, Burgundy Buyer, 03/2014)
