The EU says we're not supposed to call this Tocai Friulano anymore, but that's what it is. You'll find terrific aromas and flavors of stone fruits, honeydew melon and citrus with complex accents of almond paste, cardamom and lychee fruits. Nicely rich and full in the mouth, there's fine acidity on the back with lingering notes of tropical fruit, spice, and lemon peel on the finish. A terrific wine with fish and poultry (especially with fennel) or to just sip when you're looking for something different.
Elegant, crisp, well-balanced, with lovely minerality. In the finest San Leonardo style, but this time a white wine. To be precise, a 100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from grapes grown in the most northerly area of Trentino, whose lofty peaks inspired its name and label. “We wanted to create a white wine that could eloquently convey that rich mineral quality and striking crispness so characteristic of our growing area. That is why we selected precisely this grape variety, since it expresses itself here with such elegant fullness. It took much searching, but we were finally able to select gapes from some of the region’s most superb vineyards,” explained Marchese Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga. “The objective was to offer a rigorously genuine, pure wine, in complete accord with what has always been our philosophy.” Vette di San Leonardo, whose inaugural vintage is 2011, comes from meticulously-tended vineyards that are 6-15 years old. The grapes are picked by hand, then undergo a brief low-temperature maceration and gentle pressing in an oxygen-free environment, followed by a 12-day fermentation in steel at 12°C. This initial production of 25,000 bottles yields a fragrant white wine in which the floral notes so classic to the grape variety are finely complemented by the complex qualities due to the wine’s Trentino terroir.
