Vintage blend: 76% 2011, 24% 2010. Merlot 46%, Cabernet Sauvignon 33%, Cabernet Franc 15%, Petit Verdot 6%. NV11 Cain Cuvée is a blend of two of our coolest vintages in the past decade. So it’s no surprise that the NV11 has the lowest alcohol in more than a decade: 13.5%. We always try to keep a light touch on the Cain Cuvée--so too, with the NV11. Still, in the vineyards from which we draw the Cain Cuvée, the yields were low, and the grapes had all the time they needed to fully reach the level of ripeness we seek. As a result, we find unaccustomed depth and complexity in the NV11. Subtle notes of red berries, sweet herbs, and flowers envelop a solid core of fruit and fine tannins.
The Cain Cuvée is our most creative endeavor. It’s about the style of Cain and our vision of what classical red wine can be. Drawing from specific vineyards, both mountain and valley, as well as two vintages, we strive to compose a wine of aromatic complexity that is truly silky and sits lightly and refreshingly on the palate. If we have succeeded, the wine will dance on your tongue!
