The label of Mezcalero Special Bottling No. 2 states that it is the “Finest Mezcal in Bottle,” and many will argue that this is true. It was hand-distilled in October and November of 2012 by Don Valente Ángel in Santa Maria Pila. He used wild agave Dobadaan found on a south-sloping hillside called La Loma de la Mojonera at 5340 feet elevation. This agave is rare. It takes about ten years to mature. Mezcals from Dobadaan are spicy and sweet due to the species’ high sugar content. The salient characteristic of this release is that it spent three years in a tank. Over the span of those three years, this Mezcal developed an innate complexity that is deep-flavored and profound.
