Lemon/orange peel and cane sugar sweetness up front - which continues through the sip - becomes bittersweet mid-palate, slightly tannic, tropical fruit and berries, a hint of cacao and bitter molasses at the back.

El Dorado epitomises the unique quality and the true taste of Demerara. Complex with aromas/flavours of baked coconut, toasted nut, brown sugar, spice with orange peel and resinous notes; dry with an initial sweet note, medium-bodied, rounded on the palate with a sweet smoky note on the long complex finish.

Not often we have a vintage of this age in the 46% volume range. If traditional Rum is your thing then this will be perfect but with a really nice twist in the flavour that takes this rum style to a new level.

El Dorado Grand Special Reserve commemorates the 50th anniversary of Guyana gaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1966. A blend of rums aged for between 33 and 50 years: 65% was distilled in 1966, 25% between 1966 and 1976, and 10% comes from 1983. Packaged in a crystal decanter, this is a full-bodied and complex rum with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of orange peel.

Dark brown rum distilled from fermented molasses. Distilled in Guyana and bottled in Canada, Lemon Hart 151 is a caramel-colored, aged, overproof rum used in many tiki cocktails. Heavier than El Dorado's 151 clear, High Strength Rum, Lemon Hart 151 isn't for the casual drinker. Hints of burnt caramel, dark fruit and ripe banana are a preview to the heavy, complex taste with layers of cinnamon, dark raisin, dried apricot and baked apples. Best used in moderation as a float in cocktails. After disappearing from the market since the sale of the Lemon Hart Demerar brand to Mosaiq, Lemon Hart Demerara Rum is coming back to the US and other markets beginning this month. The age-old wood of this original still contributes to the heavy-bodied, aromatic character of this rum, which was originally the preferred choice of the British Royal Navy.

In the glass, this rum is a dark copper, partially the result of added spirit caramel. The nose is molasses, with more subtle traces of leather and tobacco. The initial entry surprises with a sweet fruit, but which quickly transforms into the molasses and tobacco tones picked up from the nose, along with some mild spice. The finish is dry and earthy, with the tobacco fading out last with a slight amount of burn. This is a robust spirit that has no designs on being a fancy sherry-casked sipping rum. Not an ideal gateway rum for someone new to the category, it’s worthwhile to pull out when demonstrating the diversity of styles. Also ideal for cocktails which call for a non-overproof demerara-style rum, where it competes in the same space as the El Dorado 5 and El Dorado 8.
