The opening aroma is atypical but following aeration the aroma becomes more of a customary Armagnac perfume as scents of sweet oak, prunes, cocoa, spice and raisins meld. The palate entry is assertive, sweet and raisiny; at midpalate a brief flash of spirit is followed by fat flavors of sautéed butter, almond paste, nougat and dark honey. Aftertaste is rich, long and sweet.
Aged 15 years and distilled from mostly the hybrid Baco grape, Château de Briat Hors d’Age is big, rich, and round brandy brings to mind that chubby guy who is, to everyone’s surprise, an excellent dancer. Aromas of licorice and tobacco smoke, comforting flavors of candied nuts, chocolate, and dried fig, leading to a warm, enveloping finish.

The youngest of the brandies in this typical Bas-Armagnac blend was aged in oak barrels, in our cellars, for at least 15 years. A distinct vanilla character enhances the pleasure of the liqueur, which reveals lightness, body and an admirable length on the palate.
Domaine D'Esperance, a formerly abandoned estate on a hillside in the Sables Fauves of Gascony, was purchased and renovated in 1990 by Jean-Louis and Claire de Montesquiou. The estate's fruit-forward armagnac is produced with Baco 22A and Folle Blanche grown in the sandy clay soil of Grand-Bas-Armagnac at the border of the Landes and the Gers at Mauvezin d'Armagnac. After the grapes undergo natural fermentation, the wine is distilled in a traditional Armagnac still and then matured in gascon oak barrels. Domaine D'Esperance 5 Year Old Bas Armagnac is a blend of three different vintages which have been matured in gascon oak casks for at least five years. An enticing nose of dried fruit, caramel, spicy vanilla and black peppercorn gives way to a lively, medium-bodied palate boasting flavors of toffee, espresso, almond, tobacco leaf and pine. Notes of raisin and spicy oak linger through the clean, assertive finish. Product of France Alcohol by Volume: 40%

Larressingle VSOP Armagnac is produced from a cross-vintage blend of Armagnacs of not less than eight years of age, as opposed to the legal minimum of five, and exclusively from wines from the Bas Armagnac and Ténarèze districts. To produce the light, smooth texture expected in the finest Armagnacs, 20% of the blend is double-distilled. This Armagnac is supple and full-fruited, with a rich, smoky bouquet reminiscent of prunes and a lingering, mellow finish.
