Very Special Cognac
This Atlantic Cognac comes from the Island of Re, the Ile de Re, which lies close to the La Rochelle in the Maritime part of Charente. The Island has a 70 kilometres coastline, rough, windy and heavily influenced by the Atlantic sea. The grapes benefit from a good balance of sunshine and rather salty breezes. The cognac is based on wine which comes from Ugni Blanc grapes, that are harvested in the month of October. Camus Island XO Cognac is a special, maritime Cognac - partly aged close to the sea, later on matured with different conditions. The bottle keeps 70cl of 40% ABV Cognac.
Camus' XO Borderies comes in a 70 cl bottle and is a special one: The grapes used for the produktion of the eaux-de-vie only come from the Borderies growing area, so it is considerer as a Single Cru, the used vineyards belong to Jean-Paul Camus.
95 PTS WINE ENTHUSIAST 2013. Camus XO Elegance is best when allowed time to open. The palate is light at first, with vanilla and caramel deepening to a fruity finish full of apricot and orange flavors
This is Camus top of the line product containing their highest quality eau-de-vie. The Cognac is between 30 and 50 years old and is package in the most exquisite sleek and elegant bottle. Camus is a family owned house which specializes in Cognac from Borderies, but this contains juice from all three top regions, including significant portions of Grand Champagne and Petite Champagne. In my opinion this beats some of the Hors d'age from the bigger houses that come in at more than twice the price. Compares favorably to bottlings like Hennessy Paradis. This is a slightly different take of the rum original. Drained, canned strawberries may be used if fresh fruit is not in season, but be sure to wash off the sugar syrup before use.
