Distilleria Bottega was founded in the 1970s and named for maste distiller Aldo Bottega whose son--Sandro Bottega--is today a noted race car driver, guitarist, and modern art aficionado (according to their website--it is good to be the son of a master distiller!). Bottega Gianduia liqueur is based upon a grappa--a kind of clear spirit based upon the wine grape's skin and pits (itself a highly flavorful and exotic alternative to vodka). The grappa is flavored with Italian gianduia Chocolate (gianduia chocolate contains a sizable portion of hazelnut paste in its mixture). The 2012 Wine Enthusiast found it richly decadent saying, It’s like sipping liquified chocolate laced with hazelnut liqueur.
