Power of Love is a truly unique pink-colored shandy created by blending Northwoods Soda & Syrup Co. Gourmet Lemonade and a Wheat Ale brewed with raspberry and rosemary. Enticing sugary aromas intermix with appealing citrus and herb fragrances. Very sweet lemon flavors give way to a shock of tart raspberry before turning sharply dry, as if eating a piece of grapefruit.
A true Bloody Mary should always incorporate a few ounces of beer. Essentially, what we’ve created is the reciprocal of a Bloody Mary that’s made with a little beer. In this case, the majority of the beverage is beer instead of tomato juice. This recipe broke into the scene in 2007 as number 8 of the 13 Imperial Beer series and is classified as a specialty beer. With a double golden beer as the base, it finishes with a hearty 8.25% ABV in order to meet our “imperial” status. I use the word “beer” because we use a California Lager strain commonly found in steam beer which is a lager fermented at warmer temperatures. Therefore, it’s not quite ale and not quite lager but rather possessing characteristics of both. In the primary fermentation, we add Roma tomato puree (about 2 lbs./gallon!), horseradish, black peppercorns, dill and celery seed. The combination of golden beer fermenting with Roma tomato puree produces a uniquely balanced, bright orange beer that tastes like a bloody Mary. The end result is very much a beer first, but one fully integrated in harmony with the highlights of a great Bloody Mary.
Beard of Zeus is an American Pale Lager made with Zeus hops and bitter orange rind. This Lager smells of dank hops and fresh cut grass and tastes of bitter orange hard candy. Beard of Zeus is refreshing and has a light body.
MMMKAY is an India Pale Lager originally produced from the final runnings of Aww Jeah. Since then, its own malt bill has been developed so the good people of Michigan can have access to MMMKAY even when Aww Jeah hasn’t been brewed. The initial fragrances are of bold citrus fruit; guava, orange, and lemon. As the head settles, the aromas shift to fresh evergreen accents. Indicated by the light body and pale yellow appearance, the focus of the beer is on hops, rather than malt. An array of enjoyable American hop flavors shock the palate ranging from slightly fruity to an intense earthy pine. A bold bitterness dominates the finish, enhanced by the clean unobtrusive nature of its lager origin.
Local’s Light is classic American Lager crafted by Joe Short in 2004 to be “beer in it’s simplest form”. It’s a bright yellow beer with effervescent aromatics of fresh malted barley and lager yeast. Local’s Light has soft and subtle flavors of malt that finish crisp and clean that’s perfectly balanced for smooth and easy drinkability.
One of the first Imperial beers made at Short’s, this American Pilsner has an appealing clear, bright, golden straw color. Faint esters of fresh baked bread and grain aromas precede the flavor resulting from the abundance of flake maize used in this recipe. Hefty doses of hops create a pronounced dryness that seamlessly blends with the crisp, clean finish.
Noble Chaos is an Oktoberfest/Marzen (German-style amber lager) with a subtle hop bouquet and toasted caramel malt flavors. It is a well-balanced beer that finishes fresh and clean. With a pleasant nose and medium body, this brew is a taste of the fall season.
Juicy Brut is a sessionable Ale with the best of both hop juiciness and brut dryness. It has a relentless tropical aroma emphasized by the increased carbonation level. This easy-drinking beer has a light body filled with tropical, juicy flavors before finishing dry.
