A Bohemian-style pilsner brewed with noble Saaz hops for a spicy floral aroma and soft hop bitterness, balanced by a base of bread-like malt flavors from fine pale barley.
Oh look, it’s a brewery from San Diego talking about sunshine. How original. But for us, the perfect sunny day is so much more than our city’s cliché. Follow the Sun is bright, crisp, and refreshing, with Noble hop bitterness and a clean finish. This Pilsner is a toast to our community, a celebration of the spirit of San Diego, and an invitation for you to enjoy a sessionable beer that can hang out for as long as you can. It’s time to get outside. The sun is calling… follow it.
We brew this lager in tribute to the world’s biggest beer party. Vienna and Munich malts produce the deep golden color, nutty undertones, and toasted malt flavors characteristic of this renowned Bavarian beer style. Perle hops imported directly from the Hallertau region of Germany yield a smooth balanced finish. This year’s batch of Oktoberfest has arrived, and it tastes like we’re in for quite the celebration. Prost!
It was February 2nd 1989 when we opened our first brewery on Columbia Street in downtown San Diego. This easy drinking beer has been pouring since that very first day. Imported Munich malts give Columbia Street Amber its deep bronze color, smooth body, and crisp toasted flavor. Karl Strauss has grown, but the original brewery location remains. Raise a pint of Columbia Street Amber and join us in a cheers to San Diego’s vibrant craft beer scene.
25 years in the brewing industry. It takes a pair. A pair of guys who know how to build a brewery with character. For such a momentous anniversary, we needed to go all out. We brewed a robust Doppelbock: a seriously rich, malty lager with caramel flavors and a plum-like fruit character. Then, we kicked it up a notch and aged it in oak barrels for an entire year. This Doppelbock has everything you want this time of year: it’s toasty, warm, and ages like a champ. Enjoy a beer with as much character as the brewery that created it. Cheers to our first 25 years, and the next 25 to come.
Big Barrel IIPA rides alone in the crowded sea of hoppy brews. This effervescent brew pours bright and golden, with a juicy aroma of grapefruit and melon bursting from the glass. Vibrant berry and citrus flavors envelop your senses with every sip. Big Barrel’s unique characteristics come from Nelson Sauvin hops imported from New Zealand. Warrior and Ahtanum hops add an assertive bitterness. Big hops. Big flavor. Yeah, this one’s a big deal.
Lifeguard tower #10 in Mission Beach marks the spot where, back in ’89, we drew up plans for the first craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Decades later, Tower 10 IPA is a salute to all things hoppy. Brewed in true West Coast fashion, it has intense pine and grapefruit notes that linger through a dry finish. Our signature dry-hopping technique brings out vibrant citrus aromas that are balanced by a toasted malt backbone. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire yours.
Before the Mosaic hop even had a name (back when it was just known as “HBC 369”), our brewers couldn’t wait to get their hands on some. Mosaic Session IPA is bursting with vibrant grapefruit aroma and flavors of citrus and tropical fruit. Our signature dry-hopping technique delivers an incredibly drinkable lower ABV beer without sacrificing hop appeal. From a small test batch to the bottle you now hold in your hands, this isn’t a one-and-done beer. Sit back, have a few, and enjoy your session.
