The Castello was built by the Firidolfis in the 10th century and together with Brolio, Meleto and Vicchiomaggio it served in a chain to repel the attacks of Siena against the Republic of Florence. Now Cacchiano produces fine classically styled wines of the zone. Their vineyards have fantastic positioning and the estate is a real gem on the Chiantigiana or Chiantishire.
