Located in Valgatara, in the depths of Valpolicella Classico, sits the family-run Luigi Righetti estate. Since 1909, when Angelo Righetti first earned a reputation as an outstanding winemaker, the family has focused on producing quality wines of distinction. Gianmaria and Giuseppe are the fourth generation of the Righetti family to carry on the family winemaking tradition. Gianmaria and Giuseppe’s father, Luigi, who is still active in the estate’s day-to-day operations, was the first in the family to consider production for consumers beyond the local market. Gian Maria has gone a step further by crafting wines with a more international flair.
Campolieti means “happy fields” and refers to the vineyards from which the grapes are harvested. The wine is made of the traditional Corvina, plus other varietals that has had a second fermentation on the pressings of the Amarone grapes (a process called “ripasso”).
You can smell Black-cherry with a raisin-like complex of scents. It has a deep flavor, round tastes punctuated by a slightly bitter hint, delivered with a graceful lightness.
Pairs well with steak or pork roasts, hearty pastas, risotto with mushrooms, and seasonal hard cheeses.
Enjoy!
