ABOUT THE BRAND
Founded in 1896 Federico Paternina establishes this winery on a site featuring cellars dug in the 16 th century in Ollauri, Rioja Alta.
Bodegas Paternina was the first major wine company in Rioja, the most influential, dynamic and economically powerful. Its origins go back to Eduardo de Paternina, father of Federico and Marqués de Terán one of the pioneers of modern viticulture in Rioja at the behest of his close friend
the Baron de Rothschild, who years before had acquired the Château Brane Mouton.
INTERESTING FACTS
Hemingway´s first stop was Logroño, where the bull fighter Ordóñez participated in a fair held on the occasion of the Harvest Festival. During those days, Hemingway enjoyed in La Rioja with his friend some unforgettable days of wine, bulls and party.
TERROIR AND VINIFICATION PROCESS
Selected vineyards of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. Clay calcareous soils, located on slopes with good drainage and with good solar exposure.
Harvest made manually in small boxes and careful selection of the best grapes in the winery.
After a careful fermentation under temperatures not exceeding 28 ºC, the wine is kept in vats for stabilization. The wine is aged in medium toast American oak barrels followed by ageing in bottle for a combined period of 36 months.
TASTING NOTE
Deep bright ruby red colour with garnet rim. Very elegant on the nose with delicate cooked red fruit aromas, spice and smoke from the ageing in barrel On the palate it has ripe red fruit flavours with hints of vainilla and toast.
Well balanced, velvety, complex with smooth tannins and long finish
Perfect with red meats, venison and cured cheeses.
Recommended serving temperature 17°C.
