Excellent accompaniment for strong cheeses, dried fruit and chocolate and wild berry desserts. The Vintage Port is principally a 60/40 blend of Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, aged only in stainless steel. It comes in with 116 grams per liter of residual sugar. Rather similar to the LBV in style, this adds more intensity of flavor, more pungent aromatics with some cistus/eucalyptus nuances, a bit more depth and a bit more power. It is not quite as precise and focused, at least on opening. That changes the next day. What seals the deal is the lift to the fruit-it is never jammy or sloppy. In truth, there isn't a huge difference between the LBV and this; it's more a matter of degree. The most notable difference is the intensity of flavor here-this Vintage Port just hits you over the head with its pure, fresh fruit on opening. (Of course, it's also younger than the LBV.) The textured finish makes it a little sexy too. The more you drink this-and it is approachable young-the more you'll love it. This is a pretty nice deal in a very different style. Overall, it shows great.
