Sancerre is known primarily for its iconic Sauvignon Blanc, but the region also produces some lovely Pinot Noir. Red Sancerre usually ranges in price between $20-$60, which also happens to compete directly with other fine Pinots and often leaves customers in a quandary. But if you're willing to try a new Pinot and don't want to plunk down too much on an unfamiliar area, then give Alphonse Dolly a try. Well below $20, this wine is made by a family winery in Sancerre where the main production remains AOC classified Sancerre. The 2011 is crafted with organic grapes from 15 year-old vines grown just outside of Sancerre proper. At $17, Dolly's Vin de Pays is one of our best bargains in French Pinot Noir - and it's great for the warm weather.
